Attested December 1895 – 1st Battalion Posted for tour of duty with 5th Battalion 23 February 1911 – Granted Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (1st Battalion Gazette May 1914) – Promoted Colour Sergeant 04 May 1914 – Medal Index Card entered France 8 September 1914 – Born in Dublin in 1880 and served as 5231 Company Sergeant Major 1st Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment. Married Rachel Kate Herbert of Ryeworth Bank Charlton Kings in 1907, in Kent. Killed in action on 28th October 1914 during the Battle of Armentieres, France and buried in the Erquinghem-Lys-Churchyard Extension near Armentieres. The “Roll of Honour” published by the Gloucestershire Echo on 8th August 1916 listed him as late of Ryeworth Bank, Charlton Kings. Not commemorated any memorial in the Charlton Kings area. Rachel was residing at 3 Royal Well Terrace, St Georges Road, Cheltenham in 1917/18. His name is recorded as TAFFE in SDGW and CWGC and his death was reported in the Gloucestershire Echo published on 27th November 1914 (Charlton Kings Remembered)
