3rd May 1915

Germans again used their artillery and we were under a constant hail of shells and rifle bullets. Casualties: – Lieutenant Rushworth killed and Lieutenant Farrel Saxelby, Westrope and Slack Wounded, Captain Easton wounded twice.
1130pm Retirement on Pottenhoek (Map 28. H.3.d) carried out under orders previously received. All dead buried and wounded sent to dressing stations as far as possible. Surplus ammunition Buried. Route taken via Wieltje, St Jean, La Brique, across No2 Platoon Bridge to H.4. Roadway Congested with troops retiring and arrived into bivouac E. g. d North East 4am and were later joined by our transport. At 12noon we were shelled and suffered 2 casualties – wounded.
Moved west into the old Army Service Corps supply depot on the north side of the road to Poperinghe near De Brandeoek (C.s.d map 28) Casualties during day 22 Killed and 42 wounded
9pm Moved off to Steenvoorede.
