14th Battalion Durham Light Infantry
On 20 November 1917, after months of trench warfare and training, 14 DLI, as part of the 6th Division, joined the British tank advance at Cambrai, taking prisoners and capturing German guns. A German counter-attack, however, forced the Durhams back with heavy losses. In the desperate fighting around a canal east of Marcoing on 3 December 1917 the battalion was forced back.
