2am Left Shelter Wood and marched by Coys to North West corner of MAMETZ WOOD where guides from the 2 Regiments took the Coys into the front line. Battalion HQ at S.8.d.8.9. B and D Coys in front line S.3.e.9.9. C and D Coys in Support. Relief complete 7.30am.
4pm 5th Yorks moved into support of our left flank occupying ‘B’ AVENUE EAST BEASON Trench, LANCS Trench and KOYLI Redoubt.
10pm ‘A’ Coy relieved by 5th Yorks Regt in trenches west of junction of SOMME ALLEY and SWANSEA Trench and moved into reserve at O.G.1. line. D Coy moved 2 platoons after relief by 5th Yorks Regt into new intermediate line between Somme Alley and Jutland Alley, holding the front line (Swansea Trench) with 2 Platoons. Casualties: – 3pm 9th – 3pm 10th 1 Killed 7 Wounded
