Attested 8 September 1914 at Central Recruiting Office City Hall Hull – Initial training in Hull at the Cricket Ground Anlaby Road and on 18 January 1915 to Ousthorpe Camp Pocklington. In May 1915 the 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment joined the 92nd Infantry Brigade of the 31st Division and moved for Divisional training to Penkridge Bank Camp near Rugeley, 18 June 1915 on to South Camp Ripon and then to No 2 camp Hurdcott near Fovant Salisbury – Medal Index Card British War Medal and Victory Medal with 1st Garrison Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment attached Supply and Transport Corps India – Joined Regulars – Discharged
