He has done excellent work throughout the last six months as Company Sergeant Major . He has always performed his duties in a cheerful and capable manner, and has shown a fine sense of leadership. His organisation both in and out of the line gave proof of energy and keenness. In particular on the 12th April 1918 near Merris, he rallied his men under heavy machine,gun and rifle fire, and caused heavy fire to be brought on the advancing enemy. He showed complete disregard for his own personal safety.
